Rupin Pass Trek Plans

The high-altitude walk known as the Rupin Pass begins in the Indian state of Uttarakhand in Dhaula and concludes in Sangla. You will spend the most of your time hiking in Himachal Pradesh since that state has 80 percent of the route. Rupin Pass is regarded to be among one of the high range treks for trekking in India since it is located at a high height of around 4700 metres (15250 feet). The high altitude is not the only factor that contributes to the region’s appeal among hikers; the wide variety of landscapes and the abrupt changes in path difficulty also draw a lot of people who are interested in nature. During your time on the Rupin Pass Trek, you will see a wide range of natural phenomena, each of which will blow your mind in its own unique way. The paths may be quite challenging at times due to their steep ascents, but then they will abruptly shift to being simple to walk. A walk through Rupin Pass is perfect for any kind of excursion since it allows hikers to traverse a wide variety of landscapes, including snowy and rocky terrain, meadows, and areas along and across water streams. You will begin your journey by hiking through more lush and warm landscapes, and as you get closer to the destination, you will go towards and through places with more snow and colder temperatures.

Itinerary Details

  • Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Dhaula

You won't have to walk to Dhaula on the very first day of your tour; instead, you'll use a car to get there. The temperature along the way won't be very chilly, but it will be rather humid; yet, the nice views of the hills will keep your excitement up for the more spectacular sight that lies ahead. The roads are in decent condition up till Dhaula, with the exception of the last few km, which have a stretch that is narrow and uneven and is packed with mud. You will be able to observe the clear water of the Yamuna river flowing while you are on your journey. Additionally, you will go through an interesting hamlet that is myth logically renowned for the worshipping of Kaurawas that takes place there. The hamlet of Mori, in which huge of meadows of marigold flowers are spread out, is the most lovely of the communities.

  • Day 2: Trek from Dhaula to Sewa

Even though today's hike is 11 km long, you won't find it particularly taxing since the rest of the route consists of simple strolls over gently sloping pathways all the way to Sewa. After leaving the Dhaula settlement, the path will begin to ascend for around 200 metres after passing a shelter for livestock. After twenty minutes, it will become much simpler, and if you continue to walk, you will be rewarded with an additional, unique perspective of the river Rupin flowing down into its bed. You will reach a road just before Sewa, where you can have tea and snacks at the shop available there and enjoy the sights of Rupin flowing while it makes calming sounds. After a turn, you will see another scene of Rupin falling from a high cliff. After that, you will continue hiking on an ascending trail through apple and apricot trees. Visit the well-known Kinnaur Temple in Sewa, where the villagers have proudly displayed their medals and trophies won in competitions both within and outside the temple. When you arrive at Sewa, you will feel a little bit of disappointment since the views are not quite as appealing as they were in the past. However, you have the option of either camping at the designated site outside of Sewa or staying inside Sewa Village itself. The Bharat trek Team would want for you to set up camp in a location that is outside of Sewa and is close to the Rupin River. in this location, your campsite will be situated on sand, and large boulders will surround it, giving you the impression of being at the beach.

  • Day 3: Trek from Sewa to Jhaka

Given the challenging nature of today's hike, you should make sure to stretch your body well in order to acclimatise it to the undulations of the trail. As the region along the route is prone to landslides, and the regular variation in the track is an addition to the difficulty level, the Bharattrek team will educate you for the day. Your journey begins out in a field with a variety of crops and then abruptly enters a jungle. After making your way through the dense forest, you will eventually come to an area close to a wooden bridge that spans the river that divides the two states. The name "No man's Place" was given to the bridge since it is in the middle of nowhere and does not belong to any state. After a half-hour walk that includes crossing the bridge, you will arrive in Gosangu. After leaving that area, you'll follow the roads that go to Kwar; the point at which you make your next turn on the route is after you cross the wooden and iron bridge on the road. If you choose the left path that leads to Jiksun village, climbing to the top of the trail that leads to Jiksun is an exhilarating experience due to the fact that the track is routed along the very edge of the cliff. After reaching this point, a member of the bharattrek crew will take you entirely under their direction to guarantee your safety while hiking along the confined and uncertain track. The hike from Jiksun village to Jhaka village takes an additional one hour and takes you through a forest that has mixed planting of deodar and walnut trees.

  • Day 4: Trek from Jhaka to Saruwas Thatch

The vistas hanging from the sides of the mountain as you wake up at the campground close to Jhaka Village are just stunning. It is a pure joy to wake up there. The members of the bharattrek team will direct you as you walk through the rivulets of Rupin and help you cross the water streams safely, both of which are features that will appear several times along the path leading to Saruwas Thatch. The road is well marked, travels past the fields of Jhaka hamlet, and then enters a forest where the fir trees are standing tall, symbolising a civilisation that is centuries old and untouched. After passing through the woodland and through the landscapes, the route makes a curve and suddenly becomes covered in snow. After crossing the bridge, continue down the narrow path until you reach another wooden bridge. The snow bridge will lead you across Rupin. After another half an hour of walking over the stones and hopping between the streams running through the rocky trails that run along the left side of Rupin, you will approach another forest, on which rest the Rhododendron trees of varied colours. After a short further hike of a few km, you will arrive at your next campground, which is called Saruwas Thatch. The ideal camping spot is a tranquil u-shaped valley in the midst of woods, with a view of the Rupin water fall in the distance. Here, you may take some time to relax and take in the many hues that nature has to offer.

  • Day 5: Trek from Saruwas Thatch to Dhanderas Thatch

On the pathways that go from Saruwas Thatch to Dhanderas Thatch, you should get yourself ready for a whole bunch of surprises that nature has in store for you. Your trip today will be filled with a variety of different kinds of adventure due to the diverse scenery that you will pass through on the route, such as woods, snow bridges, waterfalls, gorges, meadows, and rocky terrain. Begin with an even walk on the road packed with snow patches on the mountain side. Sacred silver birch trees, also known as Bhoj Trees, will accompany you until you reach the entrance to the woods. After making your way uphill through the forests, you will find yourself on the edge of a U-shaped valley. The mesmerising views, as you stand on the rim of the valley, of hundreds of waterfalls plunging down below you are designed to hypnotise you for a moment. You are now to the left of the Rupin. Walk over the large rock that runs along the edge, and you will discover the Rupin rushing into its bed. Climb another snow bridge, which, from where you are, seems to be the largest of them all. After one more steep ascent through breathtaking scenery, you will finally arrive to Dhanderas Thatch, which is located in the centre of a valley. And be ready to rest, and then partake in some exciting activities organised by the bharattrek team so that you may experience one of the most awe-inspiring and largest known meadows in the Himalayan Range.

  • Day 6: Trek from Dhanderas Thatch to Upper Waterfall camp

You will not be able to become acclimated to the new altitude in one go, thus you will be at risk for acute mountain sickness (AMS) if you go from Dhanderas to Upperwater fall camp, which is around 4000 metres higher in elevation than Dhanderas. Your acclimatisation will be arranged by the bharattrek Team at two different levels: the first will be in Dhanderas Thatch, and the second will be at the top of the water fall, which is about 1500 metres higher. The bharattrek crew will also provide you with a brief lesson in the techniques necessary for snow hiking, such as sliding on snow, side steeping, and cutting through the snow. After you have properly acclimated to the altitude, you will need to make your way to the foot of Dhanderas. From there, you will need to trek over various rivulets of Rupin and work your way up to the snow area of the first waterfall while passing through marigold flowers. After taking your time and being careful as you walked along the rocks and up the slope, you should be able to make out a path cutting through the snowy middle. When you have to make a passage through the snow to reach another enormous snow bridge, the skills you've learnt will come in handy. This is the last snow bridge, but it's the ultimate one since it offers you access to the Rupin Water, which flows from just over your head all the way down to below your feet. After a steep but rather brief ascent, you will finally be able to unwind at your campground and take pleasure in your surroundings.

  • Day 7: From Upper water fall to Rupin Pass Trek and then to Ronti Gad

The longest track of Rupin Pass starts with a hard ascent, with significant rise in height, and an hour of climbing. After that, choose the left trail, and you'll find completely new and beautiful vistas from the Rati Pheri campground. The only thing you'll be able to see from Rati Pheri is a vast landscape covered in deep snow; cutting your way through this will be your next challenging challenge of the day as you attempt to make it to Rupin Pass Gully. The members of the bharattrek team will proceed with extreme caution in this area since the snow is rather deep and the paths are not well defined. The bharattrek Team will provide you with some refreshments when you reach Rupin Pass in order to help you replenish your strength before the challenging ascent to Rupin Pass. The path leading to Rupin Pass is very short, yet it is fraught with danger due to the presence of falling rocks and other debris. The bharattrek Team recommends that you walk in line while paying attention to your footing and placing each step forward. The commencement of the Dhauladhar Range is denoted by the Rupin Pass, which is formed from an area with a hollow shape. After a brief descent, you will be prepared for the subsequent adventure, which will need you to slide down the snow in order to reach Rukti Gad. The path to Ronti Gad begins with a leisurely stroll and then quickly becomes steeper. Snow-covered mountains provide a picturesque backdrop for a camping trip at the world's most frigid but enchanting campground.

  • Day 8: From Ronti Gad to Sangla Via Sangla Kanda and drive to Shimla.

As a result of the trail's quick descent in height, today's hike will be a downhill climb, but it will be quite challenging. The Bharattrek Team will give you one more round of training to help you get used to the steep decline so that you may navigate your way downhill with more comfort and without injuring your foot or knees. After a short, easy ascent, the route levels off and becomes an easy stroll that leads to the Ronti Gad valley. Following a descent of around 460 metres (1,500 feet) in height, you will get to the end of the congested valley, at which point you will be greeted with breathtaking panoramas of Mount Kinner Kailash. At this point, Rupin Pass is completely hidden from your view. You will be able to have a good look of the Lake of Sangla Kanda and the tiny settlements that are located around it from this vantage point. Take it easy in the village and take in the beautiful scenery of the Sangla Kanda Lake. There are several routes leading to Sangla from Sangla Kanda; if you want to go to Sangla, you should pick the one that goes through the grove of blue pines. The last path is broad and well-defined, but it descends very quickly to Sangla. After a half-hour, you will arrive at Baspa Village, and after another half-hour, you will make your final ascent before arriving at Sangla, the conclusion of the trek excursion. From the road leading from Sangla to Shimla, you may rent any car.
