Overview

Bali Pass Trek Plans

An historic hiking trail used to go over the Bali pass and connect the Tonnes river valley with the Yamuna river valley. During the monsoon season, when the snow melts and the pass is navigable from both sides, it continues to be a popular destination for hikers.Because the ascent to the pass is less steep and takes longer coming from the Har-ki-Dun valley, it is easier to reach the pass from that direction. This gives hikers more time to adjust to the higher altitude. The walk begins in Sankri and travels through Govind National Park, which is well-known for its variety of flora, including wildflowers. On the way to Yamunotri temple, one may also take advantage of the chance to see the holy lake at Ruinsara, which is located along the route, and explore the less trafficked trail that goes over Yamunotri pass.

The meadows that are located close to the lake provide for an excellent location to relax before venturing out to explore the mountains and passes that are in the area. One other perk of this hike is that it offers the opportunity to camp at an elevation that is higher than 4,000 metres. The Banderpoonch range completely encircles the region, and some of the most well-known peaks in the range include Kalanag, Banderpoonch West, and Ruinsara. Jack Gibson, a teacher at the Doon school in the late 1940s, is credited for popularising this area of the country. Mountaineers will enjoy exploring the adjacent Swargarohini Range and Banderpoonch Range, which both include impressive peaks and glaciers.

The beautiful Bali Pass is a high altitude pass that is located at 5000 metres and offers amphitheatre views of the peaks of Kala Nag, Banderpoonch, and Swargarohini. The journey to Bali Pass, which has mesmerising vistas of the Himalayas, leads travellers through luscious meadows, lush green valleys, remote and distinctive Jaunsari hamlets, and uninhabited terrains.

The wooden architecture of Jaunsar’s villages, the otherworldly beauty of Ruinsara Lake, and a trip to Yamunotri Temple all combine to make the Bali Pass hike an absolute must.

Itinerary Details

  • Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Sankri

We will travel to Sankri through Mussoorie. Make a meal stop along the way. The first portion of this journey is spent driving along the Yamuna, while the second half of it takes place along the Tonnes River, which is known for its natural beauty. Today's trip passes through stretches of pine forest that are really picturesque. When we go to Sankri, we are going to check into the hotel or tents that are in a picturesque location, and then we are going to relax for a bit. Take a stroll around this picturesque village in the evening to limber up your muscles for the walk the following day. Tent or motel accommodations for the night.

  • Day 2: From Sankri to Seema drive via Taluka

We begin the day with a brief drive that is both picturesque and exciting to Taluka, the beginning site of our walk. This day's walk takes you through some breathtaking stretches of mixed woodland and along the Supin River. The majority of the terrain has a gentle incline, although there are a few places that are rather steep. This area is gifted with a very ancient and distinct culture, which, happily, has been maintained throughout the years. You are going to receive a very intimate and near encounter with it today. Along the path, you will get the opportunity to speak with residents who live in the neighbouring villages, and you will also get to see the exceptional architectural splendour of the local homes. On our way to Seema, a tiny town with a market, we will pass through a few different settlements. We will set our tent in front of Seema on the picturesque meadows near the stream. Tents will be used for sleeping overnight.

  • Day 3: From Seema to Ruinsaratal Trek

The captivating river that is located next to your campground will greet you with its splendour as you awake. The trail to Ruinsaratal, a lake with crystal clear water that is located at the base of Mount Kalanag, will be our destination for today's excursion. Hike through the enchanting forest on the route that leads to this natural treasure; the ascent is rather modest. Be sure to stop at the enchanted meadows, continue your walk and ford a few streams along the route. Once you've hiked for around 6-7 hours, you'll arrive in Ruinsaratal. Views of the beautiful Mt. Kalanag, the Ruinsar range, BandarPoonch, and Swargarohini peaks can be seen from this vantage point, and they are spectacular and close up. You will get utterly enchanted by this lake that is flanked by alpine meadows and low rhododendrons. This lake, which is situated just below the Bandarpoonch Glacier, makes for an excellent place to pitch a tent and spend the night. Tents will be used for sleeping overnight.

  • Day 4: Acclimatization Day/ Rest Day

At Ruinsaratal, you are required to take a day off to relax, adjust to the new environment, and go exploring. The bright light and the placid lake, which is surrounded by reeds, appear like they might easily hypnotise someone. Exploring this breathtakingly beautiful location will reward you with close-up perspectives of the magnificent Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, Dhumdhar Kandi, and White peaks. This morning, we are going to get up early and go to Kyarkoti, where we will see some very beautiful meadows. We will have a lovely time spending the night in tents in Ruinsaratal after having a wonderful day of travelling about.

  • Day 5: Trek from Ruinsaratal to Bali Udiyari

This day's walk is a short and straightforward one. In the beginning, we will go through a dense forest on our way down to the Supin River. After that, we will proceed to climb a bridge that will take us across the river, and then we will arrive at an exceptionally beautiful little meadow. We are going to continue our journey in order to get at the camping area at Bali Udiyari, which gets its name from the natural cave shelter that can be found there. Tents will be used for sleeping overnight.

  • Day 6: Trek from Bali Udiyari to Bali Pass Trek to Damni Camp

We started our walk to Bali Pass from Bali Udiyari and made our way up the mountain. This last leg of the hike takes place on a difficult terrain that has boulder sections. The ascent will be difficult all the way up to Bali Pass, starting at Bali Udiyari. After a few hours of hiking, we finally arrive at the Bali Pass. From this vantage point, take in breathtaking views of the Swargarohini, Banderpooch, and Garhwal peaks, as well as the Yamnotri valley below. After ascending the Bali Pass, the next section of the hike, which is also the most challenging and rewarding, begins. We will go down the almost steep route that is full of scree and large stones. After we have completed this section, we will arrive at the goat trail, which is going to be much more difficult to trek. Following this really taxing segment, we will arrive at the campground at Damni. Tents will be used for sleeping overnight.

  • Day 7: From Damni to Yamunotri to Jankichatti to Dehradun

Today marks the beginning of our journey on foot from Damini to the roadhead at Jankichatt. We make a pit stop along the way to pay our respects at the holy Yamunotri temple. You should arrive at Jankichatti after a four to five hour walk. We will board a vehicle right here, and it will take us the rest of the way to Dehradun. The trip has come to an end; please go for your next destination.
