Overview
Roopkund Trek Plans
A well-known glacial lake may be found in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, and its name is Roopkund. Because more than five hundred human remains have been discovered along the lake’s side, this lake has gained a lot of notoriety over the years. Nearly 4,800 metres above sea level, it may be found in the Himalayas and occupies a location there. The village of Roopkund may be found in the Garhwal region’s Chamoli district. It is widely regarded as one of the premier destinations for trekkers in the Garhwal region. It is in closer proximity to mountain resorts such as Nainital and Kathgodam. Roopkund, which is located 217 kilometres away from Nainital and 235 kilometres away from Kathgodam, is one of the most popular destinations for those who are travelling inside the country as well as people who are visiting the country from other countries. It is sometimes referred to as the “mystery lake,” and Roopkund is a lake that can be found nestled inside the Trishul massif. Skeletons of people have been discovered along the edge of the lake, and it is thought that these remains date back to the Palaeolithic period. It is thought that the bones here belong to heroes who waged battles in this area in years past. You may discover the skeletal structure of horses and other animals, in addition to human skeletons, at certain museums and archaeological sites. There have been rumours circulating that these bones date back to the 12th century all the way up to the 15th century. It is widely held among experts that landslides, blizzards, or epidemics were to blame for the deaths of a significant number of individuals in this area. The human remains were found again in 1942 by H K Madhwal, who was working as a ranger in the Nanda Devi Game reserve at the time.

Itinerary Details
-
Day 1: Drive from Kathgodam to Lohajung
At seven in the morning, we will assemble at the Kathgodam train station, and then we will board a vehicle at this location to be taken to Lohajung. This is a lengthy drive that is also quite fascinating. The first part of your journey will take you through the breathtaking Kumaon highlands through Almora and Kausani. After some time, we enter the Garhwal area and continue driving till we reach Lohajung. Upon our arrival, we will make our way to the lovely camp side that is located in Lohajung. Sleep in tents for the night.
-
Day 2: Trek from Lohajung to Didana
The hike today is mostly downhill, with the exception of the last section leading up to Dedina town. Because the path winds through a beautiful mixed woodland that is home to a rich variety of avian species, bringing along a bird book is a smart idea. You will get the opportunity to feel the so-called "Himalayan Bite," which is the sting that you receive from cold streams, as you stroll through a couple of towns and cross a few crystal clear streams. In addition, you will be able to gain an appreciation for a lifestyle that is characteristic of the landscape. You will arrive at the campground above Didana village after walking for around four to five hours, first descending downwards and then climbing back up again. From here, you will have a full view of the path for tomorrow heading to the famed Ali and Bedni bugyals (meadows). Overnight in tents.
-
Day 3: Trek from Didana to Bedni bugyal
We will arrive at the alpine grazing meadows known as Ali bugyal today after traversing a dense oak woodland and making a gradual rise through the forest. It is an excellent spot for taking a breather and enjoying the views of endless panoramas in all directions, and if the sky is clear, you will be mesmerised by the views of the Trishul peak that can be seen from here. The slope from here on out is not too steep, so it should be a pleasant stroll all the way to Bedni bugyal. Bedni Bugyal is a wonderful place to set up a tent since it offers expansive open vistas and grazing meadows all around, in addition to close views of the peaks of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. Overnight in tents.
-
Day 4: From Bedni bugyal to Bhagubasa trek
You will begin your ascent by ascending the slopes of the meadow, and then you will journey up to the ridge at the summit, which offers spectacular views. In order to reach the shrine at Kalu Vinayak, you will need to climb up and over another hill. The peaks of Neelkanth, Chaukhamba, and Hathi may all be seen in their entirety from this vantage point. From from point on, the amount of snow you encounter will be directly proportional to the season. The landscape also starts to become more rough. A deserted camping may be found at Bhugubasa, which is just a short distance away. It is possible that today, in the last phases, you may feel somewhat out of breath owing to the altitude; but, you will grow comfortable in this environment once you have spent some time here. Overnight in tents.
-
Day 5: Trek from Bhagubasa to Roopkund trek & Junargalli to Patal Nauchaniya
The day is going to be packed with exciting new experiences, and at the end of it, you will have a fantastic sense of accomplishment. We will get an early start and should get to the lake in about two and a half to three hours. In order to get to the edge of the mysterious lake, you are going to have to hike up several moraines, rock gardens, and snow patches. This path has several challenging inclines, and there is a good chance that it will be covered in snow for around 9–10 months of the year. Your endurance is about to be put to the test. If it becomes necessary, our guides will assist you in navigating the path through difficult areas. You may be able to observe human bones and skeletons if there is not a significant amount of snow in the area surrounding the lake. The mountains around Roopkund have a structure that resembles a crater. According to recent reports, the enigma surrounding the lake has been solved, and the presence of bones and skeletons in such vast numbers has been linked to a major hailstorm that, many years ago, took many travellers by surprise. The area offers some very breathtaking vantage points. You will spend some time here, and you will also have the opportunity to hike up a little distance towards the crest of Jurangali, which will take you twenty minutes. After taking several photographs and spending some time at this location, you go back the way you came to reach Patal Nauchaniya. As this is a lengthy trip down, we are going to stop and relax often along the way. Overnight in tents.
-
Day 6: From Patal Nauchaniya to Bedni bugyal to Wan to Lohajung
You will definitely fall in love with the hamlet of Wan if you take the time to go down through its breathtaking meadows and dense forests of pine, rhododendron and oak. Pay a visit to the temple in the hamlet, then take some time to relax. This will mark the conclusion of our hike, after which we will get into the trucks and proceed down to Lohajung. Upon our arrival, we will make our way to the lovely camp side that is located in Lohajung. Overnight in tents.
-
Day 7: Drive from Lohajung to Kathgodam
After eating breakfast, make your way to Kathgodam. Kathgodam should be reached about four in the afternoon. The journey comes to an end here.
